About k12gis	English (USA)
The main objective of this list is to provide Geography educators in the K-12 and higher levels, State and local Government agencies, School Districts, teacher candidates, and other supporters of Geographic education a forum to discuss issues of interest specific to implementation and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems [GIS] in K-12 and higher Geographic education. The list will offer a medium of rapid, meaningful, and inexpensive communication among us so that we may bridge distances -- both geographic and intellectual -- among us for the betterment of Geography Education. In keeping with the nature of Geography as a discipline, this list will be an interdisciplinary forum for fostering the integration of the Geographic approach to a variety of subjects taught in our schools. These require that we all observe some simple ground rules [listed below]. Topics of discussion may include the following and many more not listed here: Information about GIS Software and hardware issues Strategies for implementing GIS in schools GIS courses for teachers GIS support for teachers implementing GIS in their schools GIS Tips and techniques GIS [in] lesson plans/units GIS developments Networking and discussion with GIS enthusiasts GIS experiences of educators / administrators The Geography Standards and GIS Grant opportunities for GIS education Professional development opportunities in GIS education GIS Courses for Geography educators Events calendars and announcements Information sources nationwide Agencies supporting GIS etc...
